The chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said the current crises in the region are the result of the strategic mistakes made by the United States and its allies.  Alaeddin Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with the new Italian ambassador to Tehran, Mauro Conciatori, on Sunday.

"Dividing terrorism into good and bad has led to expansion of terrorist groups in the region and such policies have endangered regional and international security," he said.

Referring to the sanctions imposed on Iran, he said, "Adopting sanctions measures (against countries) is a failed policy. Sanctions (as a) tool have never been able to force the Iranian nation to retreat from their rightful stances and they have inflicted great losses on European industrial and business companies."

He went on to say that the Iranian people have a positive image of Italy in their minds, which can greatly contribute to efforts meant to expand ties between the parliaments of the two countries.

The Italian ambassador, for his part, called Iran a key regional player and said, "Addressing regional crises without Iran as a player seems impossible and Italian officials have always stressed this point."

Conciatori touched on the great economic and industrial potential in Iran and Italy and said, "There are appropriate opportunities in the economic and business sectors in the two states which could help promotion of bilateral cooperation."
