Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriate Affairs Hassan Qashqavi says eight Iranian prisoners will be extradited from Armenia late on Wednesday.

Based on follow-up measures taken by the Foreign Ministry, the embassy in Armenia and the approval of the minister of justice of the Republic of Armenia, the prisoners would be transferred to Iran, Qashqavi said late on Tuesday, according to Tasnim News Agency.

The eight men  were supposed to arrive in Iran within the next 24 hours, he said, without providing any details about their convictions.

In March, six Iranian nationals imprisoned in Armenian jails were sent back home.

Taking the recent extradition into account, the total number of Iranian prisoners in Armenia extradited since the beginning of the last Iranian year (ended in March 2015) would reach 27.

Most were convicted of carrying illicit drugs in their trips to Armenia. Currently 32 other Iranians are serving time in the neighboring country.
