The secretary general of Hezbollah al-Nujaba, a major Iraqi Shia resistance movement, praised Iran’s continued support for the Arab country in its fight against terrorists, saying that Iraqi forces managed to liberate Islamic State-held areas in the Arab country with Iran’s assistance.

“I thank the Iranian nation and the Leader of Islamic Revolution for standing by us in Iraq and Syria,” Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi said in a meeting with Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran on Saturday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Had it not been for Iran’s backing, areas under the control of IS would not have been liberated, he said.

Kaabi added that if Iranian-backed resistance groups were not involved in Iraq’s military campaign against the terrorists, the country would face worse conditions.

He described a planned offensive to liberate the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, which fell to the IS terrorists in June 2014, as a “decisive battle” which will determine the direction of the Islamic resistance in Iraq.
