Sheikh Akram al-Kaabi, secretary-general of Hezbollah al-Nujaba—a major Iraqi Shia resistance movement fighting the self-styled Islamic State terrorists, is visiting Tehran to meet senior Iranian officials.
Heading a delegation, Kaabi arrived in the Iranian capital on Friday to discuss the latest developments in Iraq with high-ranking Iranian officials, the official website of the resistance movement reported.
He was scheduled to meet Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on Saturday.
During his stay, Kaabi will address a press conference to provide details about the latest gains of the Iraqi Army and resistance forces in their military campaign against the IS in areas near Mosul and other militant-held areas.
The Iraqi Army is gearing up for a major offensive in late September to purge IS from Mosul, the country’s second largest city, which fell to IS in June 2014.
