Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani arrived in New Delhi on Friday for an official visit that includes high-profile meetings.
Shamkhani’s two-day visit to India is part of “mutual cooperation between security institutions” of the two countries.
He was scheduled to hold meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, national security adviser and senior political officials for talks on bilateral relations and the latest regional and international developments, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Modi paid a visit to Iran in May, when the two countries signed 12 memoranda of understanding to develop cooperation in various areas.
The Indian premier met with the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei who said Iran and India can join hands in a genuine fight against terrorism.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes expansion of relations with India, which is one of the emerging and progressive economies in the world, and [Iran] is fully serious about implementing bilateral agreements,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated at the time.
