Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif left Tehran for Havana on Sunday on the first leg of his Latin America tour. Heading a large politico-economic delegation, Zarif departed for the Cuban capital early on Sunday, beginning a new round of international tours, Tasnim News Agency reported. His tour will later take him to Nicaragua, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Venezuela. The top diplomat is expected to sign contracts in the fields of oil, energy and sea transport. The minister will wrap up his visit to Latin America on August 27. His previous Latin America tour in May took him to Brazil, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Venezuela and Cuba. Zarif posted a tweet last week, saying his tour is aimed at boosting political and economic relations with Latin American countries. Prior to Zarif's departure, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Saturday expansion of ties with Latin American and African countries has always been high on the agenda of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy.
