Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the indispensable role of mosques and prayer leaders in the fight against the West’s cultural inroads.
Describing mosques as the bulwark of resistance against hegemonic powers in a meeting with prayer leaders from across Tehran Province on Sunday, Ayatollah Khamenei said if there is no cultural barrier and bulwark, everything will be lost.
"Mosques serve as centers for orchestrating all social and cultural movements," the Leader was quoted as saying by his official website. "Mosques play a central role in boosting the people's intellectual development and encouraging them to participate in various social activities."
The Leader further said leading a prayer is an important work and sidelining this key mission would amount to disrespecting mosques. He cautioned that the youth are the main target of the West's multi-tiered campaign of cultural infiltration.
Ayatollah Khamenei drew a comparison between the secular and genuine versions of Islam, noting that the former seeks to limit the role of prayer leaders to religious issues.
"What global bullies oppose is a mighty Islam that forms the [core of] the socio-political system and leads nations toward real happiness in both this world and the hereafter," he said.
