Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said Iraq's territorial integrity is of high importance to Iran, as it hugely impacts regional stability.
He made the statement in a joint press conference with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri after their meeting in Tehran on Saturday, IRNA reported.
Larijani said they discussed ways of dealing with the threats posed by terrorist groups in Iraq, especially the self-styled Islamic State militant group.
"We also talked about Middle East crises, which are not unrelated to Iraq's security problems," he said.
The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since IS, which until then was mainly active in Syria, entered Iraq and declared Mosul its so-called headquarters in the country in 2014.
Since then, Iraqi government forces and volunteer fighters have been battling to take back IS-held regions. In recent months, they have made significant gains against the terror group, including the liberation of the key city of Fallujah.
***Economic Ties
The two officials conferred on how to expand mutual economic cooperation.
"We discussed efforts to develop economic ties between the two countries and problems that Iranian businessmen face in Iraq," Larijani said.
"We hope that with the help of the Iraqi parliament speaker, these issues will be solved and the two countries' relations will grow further."
Jabouri said Baghdad wants to strengthen its partnership with Tehran, especially their collaboration in the fight against terrorist groups in Iraq, as defeating terrorists is the top priority for Iraq.
"We want our real friends and neighbors to stand by us [and help] settle this security crisis," he said.
The Iraqi politician arrived at the head of a parliamentary delegation in Tehran on Saturday.
On the same day, Jabouri attended a meeting with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, during which they reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional developments.
