A senior lawmaker said Tehran welcomes the Kuwaiti parliament speaker’s call for better relations between Iran and Persian Gulf Arab states.

“The recent remarks by the Kuwaiti speaker are consistent with the Islamic Republic’s declared policy on the region,” Chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi told ICANA on Friday, in reaction to Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim, who said in an interview with Qatari daily al-Sharq that Kuwait and all other (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council states would like to have good neighborly relations with Iran.

Ghanim also said the security and stability of the Persian Gulf is a redline for regional countries, adding that (P)GCC states and Iran are equal partners in the region. Boroujerdi said it is among the unchanging principles of Iran’s foreign policy to have the best relations with neighbors.

“We welcome the remarks by the Kuwaiti speaker aimed at improving ties between Iran and Persian Gulf Arab states,” he said.

“Undoubtedly, improvement in relations among Persian Gulf countries will contribute to regional security and benefit all countries of the region.”
