The Iranian team participating in the International War Games 2016 in Russia was placed fifth in the competitions held from August 1-14. "We participated in the games for the first time and we came in fifth out of 19 countries. We thank Russia for assistance, hospitality and cooperation," Brigadier General Vali Madani, an Iranian member of the panel of judges for the contest, was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti. The senior Islamic Revolution Guards Corps commander said Iran's military teams will participate in the next round of the event in Russia in 2017. "We will definitely participate in the games next year and will try to take part in all competitions of the games," he said. Madani noted that Iran and Russia cooperated very closely and both countries learned from the experience of each other. "We competed in the tank biathlon for the first time and we learned a lot. Unfortunately, at the end, we faced some difficulties. We hope we will prepare better for the games next year," he said.
