Iran Proud of Supporting Turkey

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said he is proud that he stood with the Turkish nation in last month’s failed military coup against the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “Proud to stand with brave brothers and sisters in Turkey in support of democracy. More cooperation for peace is ahead,” Zarif said in a message posted on his Twitter account on Sunday after his return from Turkey. The foreign minister paid a one-day visit to Turkey on Friday and held separate meetings with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and President Erdogan. During his visits, Zarif conferred with Turkish officials on different aspects of bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments. It was the first visit to the neighboring country by a senior Iranian official since the coup attempt in Turkey on July 15. Iran was among the very first countries to condemn the coup.
