Cuban Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas met President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Saturday to deliver a message from Rouhani's counterpart, Raul Castro.

In the message, Castro expressed interest in expansion of bilateral ties in all domains, IRNA reported.

Rouhani said Tehran attaches great importance to its relations with its Latin American friend Cuba.

"Cultural similarities between Iran and Cuba have drawn the two sides closer after the [1979] Islamic Revolution, so they have backed each other's positions on global issues," he said.

The president underlined the need to fully exploit the two countries' capabilities to promote cooperation, particularly in the economic sector.

"After the nuclear agreement, better conditions have prevailed for enhancing cultural collaboration and fostering economic cooperation, and we should take advantage of the situation," he said.

Under the accord, clinched between Iran and major powers in July 2015, Tehran's nuclear program was subjected to temporary curbs and international sanctions against it were lifted in return.

Cabrisas said his side is seeking to help establish full-fledged cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

"As expressly stated by Castro in his written message, Havana wants a comprehensive expansion of ties with Tehran by helping remove obstacles on the way," he said.

Cabrisas noted that Iranian industries are welcome to invest in Cuba.
