Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi announced on Saturday that Iran has lifted a ban on organized tours to neighboring Turkey.

Qasemi said Iranian travel agencies can resume their activities in Turkey and they are no longer banned from sending tours of Iranian nationals to Turkey, Tasnim News Agency reported. “Lifting the ban does not eliminate travel agencies’ responsibility in exercising due diligence to ensure the safety of Iranian tourists,” he said.

The spokesman pointed to the Friday visit to Turkey by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, saying that the trip was “constructive and in line with the interests of the two nations.”

“During the visit, Zarif and Turkish officials held long and detailed talks on various issues, including political ties and regional and international issues,” Qasemi said, adding that several agreements were also reached by the two sides. Iran had banned the activities of its travel agencies in Turkey due to security concerns following the failed coup in the country last month.
