Terror Plot in Eastern Iran Foiled

Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli announced that the security forces have recently defused a terrorist plot to blow up a military base used both by the police and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps in eastern Iran. “The terrorists sought to blow up one of the bases used by both the police and IRGC,” Fazli told ILNA on Monday. “The terrorists had dug a tunnel to this end, but were stopped before taking any action.”
Late last month, Fazli had announced that the security forces discovered a secret tunnel in eastern Iran that terrorists sought to use for sabotage operations.
The Monday report did not explain whether the two tunnels are the same.
“We discovered a 40-meter tunnel at a depth of 20 meters in the eastern parts of the country, and they [terrorists] intended to use it secretly at the right time to conduct explosions and other operations,” Fazli said at the time.
