Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani voiced Iran’s readiness to devise joint strategies with neighboring Afghanistan in various areas, such as political, economic, security and border.

In a meeting with Afghanistan’s national security adviser, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, in Tehran on Saturday, Shamkhani urged constant consultations between the two countries to adopt sustainable approaches for ensuring border security and fighting terrorism, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Expressing Iran’s preparedness to work out joint political, economic and security strategies with Afghanistan, Shamkhani said the two nations need to integrate their potential for contributing to regional peace and stability.

He referred to security as the underlying factor behind development of joint border areas, stronger trade ties and curbing drug trafficking.

The Afghan official called for collective efforts in the fight against extremism and terrorism by focusing on regional security.
