The chairman of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission reaffirmed Tehran’s support for the Lebanese nation and government, and called for strengthening mutual cooperation between the two countries. “Iran supports Lebanese unity and dialogue, and we are ready for any measure that fortifies ties between the two countries,” Alaeddin Boroujerdi said following a meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam in the Lebanese capital on Tuesday, Tasnim News Agency reported. The senior lawmaker arrived in Beirut on Monday to hold talks with high-ranking officials of the country. He wrapped up his two-day visit to the Arab country on Tuesday. Later on Tuesday, Boroujerdi met Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and, touching on the Arab country’s ongoing presidential crisis, stressed that Iran does not interfere in other countries’ internal issues and that the election of a president is a Lebanese issue. “The presidential election is an internal matter and this vacuum will end with Lebanese-Lebanese agreement, and we hope to see an end [to the issue] as soon as possible,” he said.
