Judiciary spokesman, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei confirmed reports about the recent detention of an Iranian-American national in northern Iran. “Reports on the detention of an Iranian-American dual national are correct,” Ejei told reporters in a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, Fars News Agency reported. He declined to comment on the charges brought against the detained individual, but said he was arrested in the northern city of Gorgan.

Ejei did not name the individual, but said the required judicial procedures will be adopted regarding the case in Tehran. Western media have been reporting over the last few days that Gholamreza Shahini, who goes by the name of Robin, traveled to Iran this month to visit his family, but was arrested by Iranian authorities.

He had been staying at his mother’s house in his native Gorgan, a city about 250 miles northeast of Tehran and near the Caspian Sea. His friends have claimed that Shahini was visited by Iranian intelligence forces on July 11 and taken from his mother’s home. It is not yet clear if Ejei was referring to Robin’s case, as he declined to mention his name.
