Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, condemned the Sunday terror attack in a Shia district in northern Baghdad. A bomber detonated his explosives near a security checkpoint at one of the entrances of Kadhimiya, leaving 17 people, mostly civilians, dead. Over 20 others were wounded in the terror attack. The self-styled Islamic State militant group claimed the deadly incident. In a statement, Qasemi expressed sympathy with the Iraqi people, particularly families of the victims, Tasnim News Agency reported. He said the terrorist move "once again highlighted the responsibility of the international community to effectively support the Iraqi government and nation" in their anti-terror campaign. Baghdad has seen a dramatic rise in terror attacks in recent weeks, mostly claimed by IS. In the deadliest incident, nearly 300 people lost their lives when a bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a shopping district in the Iraqi capital on July 3.
