Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday hailed ties between Tehran and Islamabad as good and cordial. In a meeting with Pakistan’s new ambassador in Tehran, Zarif hoped that relations between the two neighbors will expand in all fields, Tasnim News Agency reported. The top Iranian diplomat highlighted the importance of regional security and called for cooperation with Afghanistan and Pakistan on protection of border security and stability. Asif Durrani, the new Pakistani ambassador, referred to the significance attached by his country’s authorities to ties with Iran and hoped that bilateral relations would improve during his tenure. He submitted his credentials to the foreign minister during the meeting. Iran and Pakistan, which always enjoyed friendly ties, have stepped up efforts to develop cooperation in different spheres in the past few months. During a visit to Islamabad by President Hassan Rouhani in March, the two sides signed six memorandums of understanding for collaboration in trade and commerce, insurance, culture, science, health and medicine.
