President Hassan Rouhani will participate in a trilateral summit attended by his Azeri and Russian counterparts in Baku next month.

Rouhani will leave Tehran for the Azeri capital on August 8 to attend the summit with the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia, Ilham Aliyev and Vladimir Putin respectively, Press TV reported.

During the meeting, which has been scheduled at the behest of Aliyev, the three presidents will exchange views on ways of bolstering relations and discussing the latest regional developments.

In April, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Russian and Azeri counterparts, Sergei Lavrov and Elmar Mammadyarov respectively, held talks in Baku to discuss trilateral ties and cooperation.

In the meeting, they stressed the importance of strengthening security, political and economic collaboration among the three countries.

The three foreign ministers also discussed the fight against terrorism and extremism in the region, particularly in Syria.

Iran has military advisors in Syria where the government of President Bashar al-Assad is fighting an array of foreign-backed militants.
