Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati was reelected chairman of the Guardians Council.
In a Wednesday meeting of the council in Tehran, Mohammad Reza Alizadeh was elected deputy chairman of the council and Abbasali Kadkhodaei was picked as spokesman, IRNA reported.
The 12-member body comprises six jurists, elected by the Majlis, and six jurisprudents of Islamic law appointed by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
All members serve a six-year term, but their tenure does not end simultaneously. Every three years, three of the jurists and three of the jurisprudents are replaced.
Last week, lawmakers elected Kadkhodaei, Alizadeh and Seyyed Fazlollah Mousavi as jurists of the council.
Last Thursday, the Leader reappointed three jurisprudents of Islamic law, namely Ayatollah Jannati, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad Reza Modarresi-Yazdi and Hojjatoleslam Mehdi Shabzendedar.
The top vetting body is charged with interpreting the Iranian Constitution, supervising elections and approving candidates for presidential, parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.
Ayatollah Jannati is also the chairman of the Assembly of Experts, a clerical body in charge of appointing or dismissing the Leader and monitoring his performance.
