Rouhani: Nuclear Deal Violator Would Be Loser

President Hassan Rouhani said any side of the July 2015 nuclear pact that starts violating it would be a "loser".

The president made the statement in a Cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, a day before the first anniversary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal is formally known.

The deal was reached between Iran and P5+1, comprising the US, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany.

"The JCPOA is to the benefit of all countries and global peace, security, stability and development," IRNA quoted him as saying. "Breaching it will be to the detriment of all and any side that starts it will be a political loser in the international arena."

Rouhani stressed Iran's commitment to complying with its JCPOA obligations, saying Tehran is ready to "take its nuclear program back to the [previous] level [as it was before the imposition of constraints on its nuclear activities] if, one day, P5+1 decides not to honor its obligations".

The president called for global efforts to consolidate the deal, hoping that it would help promote peace worldwide.

In addition, Rouhani urged "maximum utilization" of opportunities that emerged from the removal of sanctions under the nuclear deal "to develop the country and create jobs for the youth".
