Chairman of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri on Sunday underlined the need for responding to all threats, including enemies’ attempts to make inroads into the country. Referring to the guidelines set by the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the top commander said enhancing the Armed Forces’ capabilities and boosting their defense and security preparedness will be firmly pursued as ordered by the Leader, Tasnim News Agency reported. Baqeri, who recently replaced Major General Hassan Firouzabadi as the military chief, added that another responsibility of the General Staff emphasized by the Leader is preparing for a “timely” and “effective” response to threats against the Islamic Republic at any level and of any kind. “This is considered vital, given the enemies’ plots against Iran, widespread tensions in the region and attempts to infiltrate the country and spread these tensions into Iran,” he said.
