Newly-appointed Chairman of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri says countering threats and increasing the defense ability of the military will remain a priority.
“Enhancing the Armed Forces’ defensive and security capabilities, boosting the ability to confront threats and maintaining the potential for popular mobilization are among the most important programs,” Baqeri told reporters on Tuesday, according to Fars News Agency.
He reiterated that boosting Iran’s defense preparedness in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean has been pursued and will be followed up. “Armed Forces plans have been devised on such bases and approved by the Leader [of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei].” The top military commander underlined that security has been enhanced in border regions and provinces, especially in northwestern and southeastern Iran. “The government and private sector can easily perform their duties in those regions [border regions] similar to the other areas inside the country due to [restoration of] full security.”
