Deputy FM Calls on Nasrallah

The newly appointed Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari held talks with the secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah.

During the three-hour meeting in Beirut on Tuesday, Jaberi Ansari and Nasrallah exchanged views about the political developments in the Middle East, particularly the crisis in Syria.

Ambassador in Beirut Mohammad Fathali was also present in the meeting, Press TV reported.

On Monday, Jaberi Ansari held separate meetings with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam and Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. According to United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, over 400,000 people are estimated to be killed in the conflict. Hezbollah fighters are fighting alongside the Syrian government forces against a range of militant groups operating in the Arab country, including the self-styled Islamic State and the al Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front. The movement has been helping the Syrian army to prevent the spillover of the crisis into neighboring Lebanon.
