An adviser to the Leader of Islamic Revolution said the attack by “enemies of Islam” on the Syrian government and people is an assault on the resistance front against Zionism, urging all Muslims to stand up to the Zionists.
The resistance front refers to Iran and its allies such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah which back the Palestinians against the brutal and illegal Israeli military occupation.
“All of us are obliged to defend the resistance because resistance constitutes Muslims standing against aggression and occupation of Islamic territories by Zionists and their supporters,” Ali Akbar Velayati said in Tehran in a meeting with members of the General Secretariat of the Arab and Islamic Gathering Forum on Supporting Resistance on Thursday, Press TV reported.
The Syrian government says Israel and its western and regional allies are bankrolling rebel groups operating inside the war-ravaged Arab country.
The Syrian army has often said that it has seized huge quantities of Israeli-made weapons and advanced military equipment from the foreign-backed militants and mercenaries.
Syria is in the grip of a five-year-long insurgency which has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions in and outside the country.
