Foreign policy advisor to the Leader Ali Akbar Velayati denounced Bahrain's recent move to strip the most prominent Shia cleric in the Arab country of his citizenship, saying it stunned the world community. In a statement on Wednesday cited by Tasnim News Agency, Velayati also warned that Manama's "wrong policy" will take the popular uprising against the kingdom to a new level. Bahrain said Monday the citizenship of Sheikh Qassim has been revoked, accusing him of sowing sectarian divisions. The move was castigated by some governments and led to fresh protests against the embattled regime.
