Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif lauded Belarus’s stance during the years of sanctions against Tehran, saying Iran takes that approach into account when it comes to deciding its foreign policy.
International nuclear-related sanctions were lifted in January under last year’s landmark nuclear deal between Iran and the six major powers.
“Belarus’s attitude and approach toward the Islamic Republic in the era of sanctions had always been sincere and constructive, and we take account of that behavior in strategies regarding bilateral relations,” Zarif told the outgoing Belarusian ambassador in Tehran on Monday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
The Belarusian envoy, Victor Rybak, briefed the minister on his main activities during his tenure in Tehran, including the establishment of bilateral consular interaction and holding 13 meetings to promote economic cooperation.
Back in May, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov voiced Minsk’s willingness to develop bilateral relations with Iran in the economic and political areas.
Speaking at the 13th session of Iran-Belarus Economic Commission in the Belarusian capital, Kobyakov praised the long record of cooperation between two countries and the results it had produced.
