Bipartisan Backing for Rouhani's Reelection Bid

A member of the principlist Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom said he believes the majority of reformists and principlists, as the two major political camps, will endorse the candidacy of the incumbent President Hassan Rouhani should he seek a second term.  In a talk with ISNA on Tuesday, Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Gharavi said, "Despite the fact that the government has not satisfied all the demands of reformists, this camp seems to be unable to field a [prominent pro-reform] figure for the 2017 vote."  He added that in view of "the country's complex situation", the principlists, seen as the main political opponents of the government, will likely agree to support Rouhani's reelection.
