Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that his forces will hold 20 military drills in the current Iranian year that ends in March 2017.

Speaking to reporters in Rasht on Sunday, Sayyari said an electronic warfare exercise was held earlier last week by the naval forces, adding that by the end of this year, 20 war games are planned to be staged, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Sayyari praised the navy’s military preparedness and said Iran’s territorial waters are “fully secure”.

“The navy’s defense capabilities are high enough and no enemy would dare to violate the territorial waters of Iran,” he noted. Earlier in May, Sayyari had announced that that the drills, which include electronic warfare, missile tests, intelligence operations, deployment of submarines and relief and rescue operations, would start in a few weeks.

Iran has made known that the military exercises pose no threat to other countries and that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
