Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the domestically developed Sahand destroyer, whose construction is almost complete, will be equipped with more advanced radars and weaponry compared to previous such vessels.

Sayyari highlighted the navy’s self-sufficiency in manufacturing state-of-the-art military hardware, including destroyers, saying that in the process of building new generation of destroyers, the focus is on technology and growth, Tasnim News Agency reported on Wednesday. “The Damavand destroyer, which was constructed after the Jamaran destroyer, is more advanced and powerful,” the commander said, adding, “Undoubtedly, the Sahand destroyer, which is now under construction, is 30% more advanced in terms of radar-evading stealth technology and is equipped with advanced weapons.”  The Sahand is the third destroyer manufactured as part of the Mowj (Wave) project in Iran. Its predecessors, Jamaran and  Damavand, are currently in service in naval missions in international waters. Sayyari said the navy plans to unveil advanced domestically manufactured vessels and submarines in the near future.
