Russia Backs Iran’s SCO Membership

Russia’s deputy foreign minister announced his country’s support for Iran becoming a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Igor Morgulov hoped that the issue would be raised in the SCO’s upcoming meeting later this month in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, ISNA reported on Saturday. In a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Rahimpour in Moscow, Morgulov described bilateral relations as “progressive” and on a “promising” path. Rahimpour highlighted the increase in two-way ties, particularly over the past few months, predicting that the cooperation will grow to cover far wider areas.
