Spokesman for the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Sheikh Hamid Maala al-Saedi said Baghdad attaches great importance to the advisory role of Iranian commander Major General Qassem Soleimani in the Arab country’s campaign against the Islamic State terror group.
Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Qods Force, plays a significant role in boosting the morale of Iraqi fighters, the Alsumaria news network on Friday quoted Sheikh Maala as saying.
He emphasized that the commander has an advisory presence in the war-ravaged country and the approval of the Baghdad government.
“The Iraqi government believes that General Soleimani’s advisory presence in the country is of great importance.”
Last week, Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said Soleimani is helping his country’s forces in the fight against IS terrorists at the request of Baghdad.
His comments came after Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir criticized the presence of Iran’s military advisers in Iraq and accused Tehran of interfering in the internal affairs of regional countries.
