The foreign ministry spokesperson described the recent decision by the European Union to slap fresh sanctions on some Iranian individuals and organizations as "unconventional" and "questionable."

Referring to the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the major powers on Tehran's nuclear program, Marzieh Afkham said, "While the nuclear negotiations are underway and the involved parties are making efforts to reach a reasonable agreement, this EU action is questionable and runs counter to the current process of negotiations and the other party's commitments," IRNA quoted her as saying on Sunday.

In addition, the embassy in Brussels has officially conveyed Iran's discontent with the EU measure to the relevant European officials.

Despite the agreement made between Iran and the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) within the framework of the Joint Plan of Action that sanctions on Iran should not be increased, the European Union has recently imposed new sanctions on some Iranian individuals and organizations.
