Interim Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani underlined the role of parliamentary friendship groups in cementing ties between Tehran and Kiev, saying more efforts need to be made to make friendship groups more active.

The parliamentary groups should make efforts to help enhance Iran-Ukraine political and economic relations, the top lawmaker said in a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Tehran on Sunday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

“Under the current situation, Ukraine should not expect assistance from the US. The US administration’s records show that Washington cannot be trusted,” he said.

Larijani stressed that the US has proved at various junctures that one cannot count on its promises, adding that it “quickly changes” its stances.

The top Ukrainian diplomat pointed to the two nations’ historical and cultural commonalities, expressing his country’s willingness to boost economic relations with Tehran in addition to political ties.

Klimkin voiced Kiev’s readiness to export agricultural products to the Islamic Republic.
