Leader Expounds on Duties of Experts Assembly

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei underscored the role of the Assembly of Experts in helping uphold the objectives of the Islamic Revolution.

In a meeting with the newly elected body in Tehran on Thursday, he pointed to the "consultations on different issues", "concentration on issues of mutual interest", "declaration of stance and demands" and the issue "of discourse and public demand" as key features of the powerful clerical body.

"If these objectives materialize all the branches of government and officials and executives would obviously move toward contributing to those objectives," he was quoted by his official website as saying.

The Leader note that the path and the objectives of the Assembly of Experts must be the same as those of the revolution. "Sovereignty of Islam, freedom, independence, social justice, public welfare, alleviating poverty and eradicating ignorance, resisting the endemic flow of moral, economic, social and political corruption in the West and steadfastness against the hegemony of arrogant powers are among the most important objectives of the revolution."

Elucidating the "revolutionary identity and path" of the assembly, he said, "The only way for the survival and progress of the (ruling) establishment and materialization of the objectives of the revolution is building up real power in the country and holding up the great cause, namely defying the enemy."

"All officials and organizations have tasks on this path that they must effectively fulfill."

  Soft War

Ayatollah Khamenei said incessant inroads by the bullying powers involve a "soft attack".

"Persistent economic sanctions, continued political attacks, seductive propaganda and targeting the Islamic Republic's interests in other countries are among methods of the second phase of the enemies' invasion, which failed thanks be the Almighty and the perseverance of the people and officials."

He described infiltration as another "very dangerous" stage of the enemies' incursion in continuation of the soft war.

"In its strategy of infiltration, the arrogant powers pursue several objectives: influencing the decision-making centers, changing the people's beliefs and replacing the calculations and stances of officials."

Safeguarding the revolution is more difficult than creating it, the Leader told the experts.

He described methods of countering the global oppressors, and said, "Enemies of the Iranian nation put hard [conventional military] invasion on their agenda from the very beginning. The eight-year [Iraqi] imposed war, riots during the early days of the revolution, supporting terrorist outfits, attacks on Iranian oil platforms and downing of the[an Iranian] civilian flight (by the US Navy in the Persian Gulf in 1988) are examples of the invasion that ended in failure."

Ayatollah Khamenei said targeting the pillars and institutions of the revolution, including the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, the Guardians Council and young devotees and revolutionary clerics, are among common methods pursued by enemies.

"The main objective pursued by the enemies in this stage of soft war is to prepare the way for exhausting from within the establishment's domestic sources of power."

If this objective is realized and the Islamic Republic is devoid of the elements of power, its destruction or fundamentally changing its course would not be very difficult, he noted.

"That is why I reiterate that defying the enemy and resisting its demands is tantamount to the great cause," he stressed.
