President Hassan Rouhani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a joint statement on Tuesday, stressing the need for eliminating all forms of terrorism.

The statement, issued at the end of Modi's two-day visit to Tehran, underscored the two countries' deep concerns over extremist groups' continued attacks in the region, which are endangering regional peace, security, stability and development.

It considered the eradication of all types of terrorism and the defeat of all extremist forces as necessary, Fars News Agency reported.

The two sides also underscored the need for ending all types of support for terrorist groups and individuals, adding that countries providing support to militants should be condemned.

Finally, Rouhani and Modi emphasized their will to work out and finalize a comprehensive convention against international terrorism.

In the meeting with Modi in Tehran on Monday, Rouhani called for increasing mutual cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi in the war on terrorism and restoring peace and stability to the region.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes finding political resolutions to the problems of regional countries and it favors promotion of peace and stability in the region," Rouhani said.
