Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister Mohammad Hossein Zolfaqari and his Chinese counterpart Meng Hongwei called for expansion of security relations between the two countries, especially in fighting terrorism.

In a meeting in Beijing on Saturday, the two deputy interior ministers explored avenues for bolstering bilateral ties in the campaign against organized crime and drug trafficking, Fars News Agency reported.

The Iranian official said the two countries have agreed to boost cooperation for fighting international terrorism.

Meng said Iran and China enjoy “longstanding” ties and his ministry is willing to develop ties with the Iranian Interior Ministry.

Zolfaqari was heading a high-ranking delegation to China for a four-day visit.

In a meeting in China earlier this month, Nasser Seraj, the head of Iran’s General Inspectorate Organization, and China’s Public Prosecutor Cao Jianming discussed broadening relations, especially in the campaign against financial corruption.

Seraj had visited China to attend the Ninth Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of the International Authorities in Tianjin, China.

China’s public prosecutor said at the time that mutual interactions can help foster cooperation in international arenas.
