Rafsanjani: Europe Ties Benefit Iran's Economy

Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani highlighted the beneficial effects of cooperation with Europe on the country's industrial and economic progress.

"Iran knows that cooperation with European Union members is beneficial for boosting the economy and industry," the top official said in a meeting with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Tehran on Wednesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

Iran sees no limits to interaction with Croatia in any field, Rafsanjani said, calling on the European country to plan for stronger bilateral cooperation according to its capacities.

Grabar-Kitarovic said a delegation of 65 representatives from the Croatian state-run and private companies accompanying her in the trip was a testimony to Zagreb's push for development.

The Croatian president arrived in Tehran on Tuesday for a three-day official visit. She held a meeting with President Hassan Rouhani earlier on Wednesday and the two countries signed agreements.

The visit came against a backdrop of international enthusiasm for enhanced ties with Iran after Tehran and P5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain and France, plus Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached an agreement on Iran's nuclear program. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the deal is formally named, came into force in January and terminated nuclear-related sanctions against Iran.
