Modi’s Visit to Open New Chapter in Relations

In response to a formal invitation by President Hassan Rouhani, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Tehran on May 22 for a state visit, said the deputy for communications and information at the Presidential Office.

In his two-day trip, Modi will be accompanied by a top-level delegation of politicians, economists and cultural officials, and a number of cooperation agreements between Tehran and New Delhi will be signed, IRNA quoted Esmaeili as saying.

“Once signed, the documents will promise deeper and more dynamic ties between Iran and India,” he said. Referring to the longstanding relationship between Iran and India, Esmaeili said by signing the documents and agreements, the two countries will open a “new chapter” of cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, trade, transportation, port development, culture, science and higher education. “In addition to mutual ties, it is expected that in Modi’s meeting with Rouhani, peace and stability at both regional and global levels will be discussed,” he added.
