Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi exchanged views with senior Iraqi officials about the latest political and security developments in the region, including ways of fighting terrorism.

In a visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday, Alavi met with Iraq's Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and the head of State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, Press TV reported.

In the meeting with Jaafari, Alavi discussed bilateral relations with the neighboring country and regional and international developments. He insisted on the necessity of an international coordination to eliminate the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group.

Regional and Iraqi political and security issues were also discussed by the Iranian minister and Maliki.

Earlier, Alavi and his accompanying delegation exchanged views with Jabouri regarding the necessity of cooperation and coordination between the two countries.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by gruesome violence ever since IS terrorists mounted an offensive in June 2014. Iraqi Army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Mobilization Units are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
