The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps has deployed 100 trainers and commanders from its Imam Hussein (PBUH) University to Syria and Iraq over the past year for advisory missions, commander of the military university announced.

Lieutenant General Morteza Saffari also told Tasnim News Agency on Saturday that the university’s instructors have been dispatched to Syria and Iraq for two-month missions. Imam Hussein (PBUH) University is a public university in Tehran run by the IRGC for training its personnel. Iran, a close ally of Syria and Iraq, has been supporting the two Arab countries in the fight against foreign-backed insurgents. Tehran has already made it clear that its assistance to Syria and Iraq is confined to consultation and advisory help. Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces fighting an assortment of militant groups, including the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group.

Iraq has been grappling with the threat of IS terrorists since they invaded the country in the summer of 2014.
