Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is scheduled to visit Iran in the near future, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Monday. “It is very good that meetings between senior Iranian and Japanese officials have been so useful that they have resulted in the upcoming visit of the Japanese prime minister to Iran,” Araqchi was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency. Araqchi reiterated that the meetings between Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Japanese counterpart have resulted in stabilizing the two countries’ relations. “Setting up the Iran-Japan Cooperation Council, signing of documents to support joint venture investment and the visit of Iranian economy minister to Tokyo have paved the way for expansion of relations between the two countries,” the senior diplomat said. Abe’s visit is aimed at helping broaden economic cooperation and increase imports of Iranian crude oil by Japan. The implementation of last year’s nuclear deal with major powers and removal of economic sanctions against Iran have encouraged Tokyo to take action to broaden cooperation with Tehran.
