Iranian and Italian foreign ministry officials held talks in Rome on Friday on ways of regulating consular ties.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Hassan Qashqavi told IRNA that the two countries’ officials reviewed promotion of consular relations, facilitation of visa issuance and expansion of academic cooperation.

“Removal of obstacles to mutual banking transactions and cooperation between the two sides’ police and judicial systems were other topics of discussion between the delegations,” he said.

Qashqavi said after the conclusion of the nuclear deal with major powers, Italy led the way among European countries in resuming trade ties with Iran and some of its banks revived relations with Iranian partners immediately after the accord.

“The upcoming visit by Italian Minister of Economy and Finance Pier Carlo Padoan to Iran can help resolve financial and banking problems in bilateral interactions,” he added.
