A senior advisor to the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Qods Force said the extremist ideology of the self-styled Islamic State militant group is on the verge of collapse, hoping that the terrorist group would be destroyed soon.

Addressing a ceremony in the central city of Kashan on Monday, Lieutenant General Iraj Masjedi pointed to the recent achievements of Syrian and Iraqi forces in the fight against IS and the IRGC’s advisory role in the campaign, saying that many areas in the two Arab countries have been liberated from the terrorists. “The declining trend” of IS has started in both ideological and military battlefields, the commander was quoted as saying by Tasnim News Agency. Syria has been gripped by a deadly conflict between government forces and various militant groups, including IS, since March 2011. Iraq has also been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by IS.
