Iran will attend the fifth foreign ministerial meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in the Chinese capital Beijing on Wednesday and Thursday. ISNA reported on Saturday that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif or another high-ranking diplomat will take part in the meeting. According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, nearly 40 delegations from CICA member countries, observer countries and international organizations have confirmed attendance. China hosted the fourth CICA summit in Shanghai in 2014 and holds the CICA presidency from 2014 to 2016. The CICA is an inter-governmental forum for enhancing cooperation toward promoting peace, security and stability in Asia, which has now 26 member countries and 12 observers. The idea of convening CICA was first proposed by Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev on October 5, 1992, at the 47th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
