The spokesperson for the Combatant Clergy Association said on Tuesday it is likely that the association will take a decision on the successor of Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani as secretary general of the principlist group in its meeting next Tuesday. “We hope the successor will be chosen in coming meetings. It is likely that a decision will be taken in this regard next Tuesday,” IRNA quoted Hojatoleslam Gholam Reza Mesbahi Moqaddam as saying. Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahhedi Kermani will chair the meetings until the new secretary general is chosen, he added. Ayatollah Kani, chairman of the Assembly of Experts, died in hospital on October 21 after being in a coma for months.
