President Hassan Rouhani stressed Iran's willingness to develop ties with Balkan states, especially Serbia.

In a meeting with visiting Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Sunday, Rouhani called for broader cooperation between the two sides.

"Tehran and Belgrade enjoy huge capacities that can be used to boost cooperation between the two sides, in line with the two nations' interests," IRNA quoted Rouhani as saying.

The president pointed to spread of terrorism in the Middle East and the world, saying it is up to the international community to form a united front against the scourge.

Nikolic said his country is ready to develop wide-ranging ties with Iran.

The Serbian president arrived in Tehran at midnight of Saturday, aiming to help deepen ties with Iran.

Nikolic is also scheduled to meet Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and attend the opening ceremony of the Fifth Symposium of World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies, which is being held in Tehran from April 17 to 22.

The 14th meeting of Iran-Serbia Economic Commission was held in Tehran last year, in which a host of agreements in various fields, including economy and tourism, were signed.

The next meeting of the joint commission is slated to be held in Belgrade later this year.
