Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Chairman of the Finnish Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Antti Kaikkonen explored avenues for promoting cooperation between Iran and Finland in a Sunday meeting in Tehran.

Zarif hailed the positive outlook for Tehran-Helsinki cooperation, hoping that the two countries’ parliaments would deepen their relations in view of their determination, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He pointed to capacities created after the July 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers and said there are good opportunities for Iran and the European Union to tap into their economic, trade and banking potentials.

Zarif hoped that firm and tangible steps are taken in this regard, given the determination of EU member states.

Kaikkonen expressed Helsinki’s interest in taking new steps for the development of parliamentary, economic and cultural relations between the two countries. “During this visit, we developed our knowledge about Iran’s capacities,” he said.

“The trip will also help introduce Finland’s potential for the enhancement of economic ties with the Islamic Republic.”
