The commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base highlighted the country’s major strides toward self-sufficiency in the area of air defense, announcing that the base’s security apparatus is equipped with homegrown electro-optic systems. One of the duties of the base is “integrated defense” of Iran’s airspace and the base seeks to identify and confront threats in a timely manner, Lieutenant General Farzad Esmaeili said on Tuesday, according to Tasnim News Agency. “In-depth defense is high on the agenda,” he said, adding that it requires certain tools and equipment such as long-range radar systems and electronic surveillance devices.

The commander noted that all of the pieces of military hardware used by air defense forces, including electronic surveillance devices and electro-optic systems, have been developed by domestic experts.

On Sunday, Deputy Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Alireza Sabahifard said there had been a 1.5-fold increase in the number of air defense missile sites across the country in the past five years.
